Overview
Cooling systems are typically partial flow (by-pass) filters, with less than 10% of coolant flowing through the filter. We offer a range of filters designed to work in a variety of operating environments and maintenance schedules. Use of the correct filter is important to maintain the proper balance to prevent over-concentration (silicate dropout) or under-concentration, which leads to corrosion, liner pitting and other system problems.
Coolant Filters
There are 3 types of standard coolant filters:
- The pre-charge filter, which contains enough coolant additive to initially charge the cooling system and to allow for depletion to the first service interval.
- The standard charge spin-on filters, which contain adequate chemical additive to maintain cooling systems between service intervals.
- Blank filters, which contain no chemical additive and can be used with cooling systems maintained by liquid additive, systems using long-life coolants which require no additive, or on overcharged systems to help bring the additive back to the normal range. Blank filters are not intended for use with water-only systems.

- Remove radiator cap; use caution if hot or under pressure
- Unscrew and remove old filter and gasket
Properly dispose of the used filter according to local regulations
- Wipe filter head with clean cloth
- Apply a thin film of clean motor oil to the gasket
- Align threads and spin on filter until gasket contact
- Follow icons on filter to tighten
- Pour coolant mix into overflow
- Start engine and check for leaks
- Test coolant according to type
